Our Name

What "Kwayask" means to us

ᑲᐧᔭᐢᐠ  —  Kwayask

A Plains Cree word meaning in a good way, correctly, straight, fairly. It's not just our name — it's how we hold every relationship with the organizations and communities we work alongside.

Kwayask Consulting is an Indigenous-led consultancy supporting Indigenous organizations, Tribal Councils, First Nations, Indigenous-owned companies, nonprofits, and charities across Canada — through registration, grant writing, funder relationship building, and fund development.

Our Approach

Built on lived experience

We've founded organizations, scaled them, sat on boards, and rebuilt from the ground up ourselves. We bring that lived understanding — not just technical expertise — to every file we touch.

Every engagement starts with your mission and your community's priorities, and every deliverable is built to outlast us: systems and relationships your organization owns long after our work is done.

A former foster youth who rebuilt her life from the ground up, Vanessa has spent over a decade in the nonprofit sector — founding and scaling an Indigenous-led foundation to seven-figure annual revenue before co-founding Kwayask. She sits on multiple boards and was named a 2026 YWCA Woman of Distinction.

Maverick Hann

Co-Founder

Maverick brings more than 15 years of frontline leadership as a Fire Captain to his work in grant writing, business planning, nonprofit incorporation, and governance. He's helped clients secure funding from federal, provincial, Indigenous, corporate, and philanthropic sources across Canada — building the funding strategies, business plans, and organizational foundations that let communities grow past their first grant. His background in emergency management, FireSmart, and workforce development gives him a practical, on-the-ground read on what communities actually need to build capacity and turn ideas into lasting impact.
